Maths
We did a maths trail, it was a shape trail. We got into groups of 4 and 5, and explored the school. Each team had an iPad, and took pictures of some 3D shapes around the school. At the start we only saw basic shapes then we started seeing shapes everywhere. We saw cuboids, spheres, triangular prisms, square based pyramids, cubes and cylinders. Cuboids and cylinders were the most common shapes that we saw. We saw very few cubes and square based pyramids. The bulbs on the lampposts were spheres. The tops of the pillars were square based pyramids. Teacher’s handbag was even a triangular prism. When we got back to the classroom we talked about the shapes we had seen and used what we had found to make shape graphs. We also sketched the nets of some of the shapes that we had seen on our trail. We did tallies of the shapes that we saw the most.

Ms Casey's Second Class Maths Trail
We went on a maths trail. We used hand spans and yellow metre strings and rulers. We measured the lengths of windowsills, benches, hopscotches and other things in the school. We had to estimate and when we got our real answer we had to have a chat about our differences. We thought it was hard to estimate the length of some things. It got a little bit easier after a few practices though.

Ms Walsh's Second Class Shape Hunt
We went on a shape hunt with Ms Ward. We were looking for different shapes around the corridors. We found loads of cuboids! It was really hard to find the cones and spheres. Cubes aren't very common. We thought we would find loads of cubes but they weren't proper ones.
