Designing Earmuffs

Engineering

How to Create a Pair of Earmuffs

Apparatus:

  • Tin foil
  • Cotton wool
  • Crepe paper
  • Cling film
  • A pair of socks
  • A hairband
  • Ribbon/string

Method:
1. Get the socks.
2. Fill each sock with tinfoil
3. Put each side of the hairband into the tinfoil in each sock.
4. Tie the ribbon around each sock to secure them to the hairband.
5. Put tem on to test how well they muffle the sound.
6. Attempt this experiment with cotton wool, crepe paper or other materials.

Result:
The tinfoil earmuffs didn't muffle the sound well as there were too many dents in the tinfoil. When tried with cotton wool the sound was well muffled as the cotton wool was well packed tgether. When tried with cling film they muffled the sound at an average of fair and when tried with crepe paper the sound wasn't muffled well.

Conclusion:
In conclusion the tinfoil doesn't muffle the sound but almost amplifies
