EU Code Week

Events > 2016-2017 > Term 1

EU Code Week ran from October 15th to 23rd. Events took place all around Europe to teach children how to code and to encourage them to think of Computer Science as a career in the future. Thirty-four students in Sixth Class have been learning how to code in after school Scratch Club. The Scratch National Competition takes place in February 2017. The students in Scratch Club will create projects which they will enter into the competition. Click here to visit Scoil Mhuire's Scratch Studio and view the projects which were submitted last year.

Ms O'Donnell's First Class began learning how to code during EU Code Week. They have been using the Code-a-pillar to find different sequences to make the caterpillar move. The girls created different codes to help the Code-a-pillar go straight, turn different directions and even sing a lovely tune! They enjoyed changing the order of the code to change the pathways and help guide the caterpillar in different directions. Take a look at their Code-a-pillar in action below.

Hour of Code will take place in December. During this week Sixth Class will teach pupils in the younger classes how to code.
