Retirements

Year 2015 - 2016 > Term 3

The end of the school year brought with it the retirement of Mrs O'Toole and Mrs Pointer. Mrs O'Toole taught infants to first class in Scoil Mhuire for the past eighteen years. Many current and past pupils have been taught by her. Father Kennedy said mass in her honour on Tuesday 28th June. This was a very special occasion for Mrs O'Toole and the school. Mrs O'Toole taught both of our Sixth Classes, one in Senior Infants and the other in First Class. They read a poem to her at the mass and sung 'You Raise Me Up'.

Mrs Pointer worked as a cleaner in the school for the past seventeen years. During this time she looked after the junior side of the school, ensuring tables were spotless and floors were shining. We wish her every happiness on her retirement.

The recipe for a perfect teacher
Can be difficult to define
For everyone has their own opinion
And yours differs from mine.

Respectful and sensitive
Discrete and oh so kind
Are just some of the traits
That firstly come to mind.

Not forgetting very thoughtful
Generous with a sense of fun
Firm but fair when needs to be
In her eyes – children are number 1!

In case there’s any wondering
If such a person exists in our school
We’re blessed to say this sounds like
Our very own Mrs O’Toole!

Both 6 classes had her as our teacher
In 2009 and 2010
Handwriting, manners and much much more
She taught us – time and time again.

Like every girl who’s had her
We can say with full conviction
Mrs O’Toole gave us an unforgettable year
Learning with no restriction.

Mrs O’Toole teaches with such passion
She never takes a rest
It’s no wonder in Scoil Mhuire’s eyes
She truly is the best!

Reading, religion, music and art
Not forgetting the Gigantic Start
Are just a few of her favourite things
That’ll stay with us, wherever we are!

And regardless of our age and job
We’ll remember her great advice
Write with a straight back and never slouch
She definitely said that once or twice!

So Mrs O’Toole we’re here to say
On us you’ve made a lasting impression like no other
And staff and pupils will all agree
The likes of you – there’ll never be another.

So thanks you for all your teaching years
Your passion, your dedication, your glee
You truly Mrs O’Toole raised us up
To more than we could be!

Mrs O'Toole walks her class out of Scoil Mhuire for the final time!

Fifth Class present Mrs Pointer with Thank You cards they made and flowers from the Board of Management.
