Scoil Mhuire are hosting an Hour of Code this December 5th-9th during Computer Science Education Week. Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics. Hour of Code is in its fourth year and students in Scoil Mhuire are taking part in the event for the third year with children from first to sixth class learning how to code during Computer Science Education week. 140,000 coding events are registered for 2016 and 300 million students worldwide will engage in an Hour of Code this week.
34 sixth class students signed up to after school computer club in September. They have been learning how to code using Scratch Computer Programming software. During EU Code Week in October these students taught the other sixth class students how to code. As part of Computer Science Education Week, sixth class are engaging in an Hour of Code with first, second and third class. Students from Scratch Computer Club are visiting fourth and fifth class to teach them how to code.
