We held a Science Fair for our school and parents on Fri. 9th Nov.
We chose the topic 'Human Biology' for our science fair and we called our project 'Don't Doubt Digestion'.
Our questions were;
We learned that digestion starts in your mouth. We did an experiment on how your saliva can break down the starch in food into simple sugars. We also added iodine to prove this. We researched the physical and chemical breakdown, the tongue and the teeth.
We were chosen to represent our school at the Intel Mini Scientist. We had to present our project to the judges. We got to see other contestants' projects. After the judges had seen everyone, we went to see 'Scientific Sue'. We came runners up in the competition.

Our topic for the science fair was magnetism. We explored three areas of magnetism - fingerprints, compasses and magnetic games. We learnt how all of these worked and had great fun with our experiments.

For our topic we chose 'Environmental Awareness and Care'. We had four experiments and made an eco-system to show other students how important it is to save the environment. We found that recycling is one of the best ways to do this.

For the science fair we had great fun learning about electricity. We also enjoyed teaching other people about electricity. We both learnt a lot about electricity that we didn't already know.

I was wondering if our tongues are anyway similar to animals and I found out cows and pigs are the same. I did a taste test with lemon juice, sugar and salt and I used a pig's tongue as a prop to point out the different taste buds.

In our project we looked at the Venus flytrap, photosynthesis and the celery and carnation experiment. We found out how the Venus flytrap digests its food, how plants breathe and how plants absorb water.

For the science fair our experiment was 'The Tornado'. We chose this to show how the force of water can create a vortex (a tornado shape) by spinning continuously. We also had smaller versions of the tornado for the other pupils to use.

For our science fair project we chose sound. We learned about sound waves and how they travel. We made an idiphone, a drum like object which shows sound waves. We also did experiments to explain this.

For our science project we chose the topic magnetism. We chose this topic because we were curious about magnets and we wanted to learn more about them. In doing several experiments we proved that magnets are only attracted to metal. They can work through wood, water glass and cardboard.

Our choosen topic for the science fair was air and air pollution. We chose this topic because we were interested in finding out how much pollution was in our area. By checking how much dirt there is on our roads we can calculate how much pollution there is in the air.

We decided to study taste buds for the science fair. We chose this topic because we wanted to know how they work and how they react to different substances. We got three different substances and placed them on different parts of our tongue and we saw how our tongues reacted to the different substances.

Our project was based on light. We put three pieces of cardboard in a shoebox with holes in the exact same spot on each card. We asked other students and parents to look through the hole in the box as we shone a light through the back hole. This showed that light travels in a straight line.

Our topic was materials so we chose the egg and vinegar experiment. We experimented on two types of egg, hardboiled and raw. We placed them in vinegar and left them for two to three days. The hardboiled egg was solid but not that bouncy. The raw egg was fragile but very bouncy. This shows that you can use eggs in many different ways.

Our topic was materials so we chose the 'corn flour slime ball' project. We mixed corn flour with water. When we applied a force to it all the particles formed together and it became hard. When we let it run through our fingers it became a liquid.

For our project we did heat. We got hot and cold water and added food colouring. Whichever one mixed together faster was the hotter one, showing that the hotter something is the more energy it has.

For our project we had animal life. We decided to see how important blubber is to whales. We needed Vaseline, a bowl of ice cold water, plastic zip lock bags and a timer. The idea was that the bags acted as skin, the Vaseline as blubber and the water as the sea.

For our science project we did 'cloud in a bottle'. We used rubbing alcohol, a clean two litre bottle and a pump. We pumped air into a bottle with a small amount of rubbing alcohol and when it was full of air we released the pump and a cloud formed.

Our project was all about the environment. We did a survey on how long certain things took to decompose. Some things took five weeks and some took thousands of years. We played a game where people had to stick the right stuff in the right bins.

Our project was all about our five senses. We tested different students and saw how they used each individual sense. It was a lot of fun and the girls found it very interesting. As you can see here, there were different stations for each sense.

Our project was about plants and their systems. We put food colouring in the plants' water. We saw that all the water travelled to different parts of the flowers. We also showed the plant's inside system by cutting the stem in half.
